Affiliate Marketing in 2016 – First Things First
It’s a new year, and time to get a fresh start in your efforts to make money online. There aren’t going to be a lot of changes to affiliate marketing in 2016; what worked last year is likely going to work this year as well. That’s great, as you’re unlikely to have to make any serious changes to what you’ve been doing. If you’ve been successful in your affiliate marketing efforts, then you’ll likely to continue to see success. If you haven’t gotten there yet, then you should see some good results from affiliate marketing in 2016 – if you put in the effort.
The key to success from affiliate marketing in 2016 is going to be how you approach the problem. Ideally, you’ll want to know exactly what it is that you want to do and how it is that you want to go about doing it. I’ve found that when it comes to such things, it’s a good idea to have a formal plan. From there, it’s just a matter of taking the steps to execute it. Obviously, what works for someone else isn’t necessarily going to work for you, but I’ve found that having a plan and following it closely can go a long way towards helping you achieve success, whether it’s making money with affiliate marketing in 2016 or doing anything. Read on and I’ll offer some more tips.
Process is the Key to Affiliate Marketing in 2016
I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of different projects going on right now. I have this blog, which gets some work every day. I have a retail Website, which gets work whenever I receive new merchandise that needs to be listed for sale or when I need to ship a product after making a sale. I have a number of other sites that need to have their content regularly updated, and I’ll freely admit that I’m not that consistent about keeping those sites updated. That’s unfortunate, as these are sites that do draw traffic but haven’t been making a lot of money. More effort on those sites will likely increase their profitability.
Here are a few things I’m doing to try to increase my income from affiliate marketing in 2016:
Making a list – This might seem obvious, but I’ve got a lot of distractions going on in my life, both personally and professionally. For me, my goals for this year aren’t changing much from last year, but I want to make sure that all of my projects receive the attention they need this year. Some of my sites are more interesting to me than others (clue: make sure you work on things you enjoy) and the ones that aren’t as interesting have a tendency to fall by the wayside as I find myself spending more time on the projects I enjoy.
This year, I’ve created a task list, to make sure that all of my projects receive equal time. This list outlines what I need to do on a day by day basis. Some sites, like this one, are going to need daily attention. Other sites, while less important, can still benefit from receiving regular updates. In the case of those sites, I’ll make sure that they receive an update at least once a week.
My list has tasks that need to be performed daily at the top of the list, followed by specific lists of things to be done each day, Monday through Friday. All I need to do now is to make sure that I actually follow that list in order to ensure that the work gets done. It’s a regular schedule, so within a few weeks, I should automatically know what needs to be done on any given day. (“It’s Tuesday, so I need to update this site and that one.”)
More time on social media – I’ll freely admit that I don’t like social media one bit. While I do have accounts with Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook, I don’t spend much time on any of those sites, as I don’t really enjoy spending time there and don’t understand why anyone else does. On the other hand, one of my sites will benefit tremendously from spending more time on Twitter, and I’m determined to spend more time on Twitter this year for that site. I really don’t have any idea what it is that I’m supposed to be Tweeting about, but regardless, I’ve decided that my affiliate marketing in 2016 requires that I do that.
Social media is a great way to get visitors to your Website for free, so if you’re a fan of those sorts of sites, it’s definitely worth your while to spend time there on a regular basis.
Working on my mailing list – I’m always talking about the importance of having a mailing list, and while there is money to be made by having a mailing list, maintaining it is a vital part of that process. It’s not enough to have a list of email addresses; you also have to regularly keep in touch with your list and offer them something of value. It’s not enough to just send sales offers to them, as people who do that will soon find that their list “burns out.” I’m on a list of a marketer who literally sends out one sales pitch every day and never, ever, offers anything else to his list. I stay on the list because it’s a good way for me to keep up with new products that are coming out, but I suspect that this guy’s unsubscribe rate is pretty high, due to the fact that everything he sends out is a sales letter. People see his name in their inbox and probably think, “Oh, he’s trying to sell me something again.
Affiliate Marketing in 2016 Summary
The list of things that I need to do to succeed in affiliate marketing in 2016 is obviously specific to my needs, and addresses the places where I know that I need to spend more time in the coming year. You’ve probably got a similar list of tasks, and we all have things we hate to do that need to be done. If you’re going to succeed in affiliate marketing in 2016, put together a list and make sure you follow it daily.
