Amazon Mechanical Turk Review
I get a lot of email and comments on this site from people who have no money but want to work from home.
There are a lot of ways to make money working from home, but most of them require that you have at least some money to spend. That might involve setting up a Website or buying merchandise to sell online, or any one of a number of other things that require you to spend money before you can make money.
But what if you have no money at all? How can you get started making money?
Amazon Mechanical Turk might be able to help you.
Amazon Mechanical Turk is a Website that was built and is owned by Amazon, the large online retailer of books and pretty much everything else.
At Amazon Mechanical Turk, you can perform small tasks for payment, and you can work from anywhere in the world.
Is Amazon Mechanical Turk a scam, or does it really work?
Read on for the full Amazon Mechanical Turk review.
Amazon Mechanical Turk Overview
Amazon Mechanical Turk is a site that allows people who have small jobs that need to be completed to find and hire people who can perform them.
These are usually simple tasks that cannot be easily performed by machine and which are best done by humans. Many of these tasks can be done in just a couple of minutes.
What kind of things might you be doing at Amazon Mechanical Turk?
They have such tasks as:
- Transcribing/Typing a video or audio
- Writing product reviews
- Commenting on blogs
- Selecting images
- Completing surveys
- Watching videos
These are simple jobs, and some people can do hundreds of jobs in a day.
How do you get started? The first thing you do is sign up for an account at the Amazon Mechanical Turk Website.
Anyone can join and as far as I know, you can work from any country, although payment can be complicated if you live outside the United States.
Once you join, you will have to complete some forms to provide personal information and payment information. While anyone can do work at Amazon Mechanical Turk, only people from the United States and India can be paid in cash to their bank accounts.
People from all other countries must accept payment via an Amazon Gift Card.
Once you have completed your signup process, you can start to look for work on the Amazon Mechanical Turk site.
Jobs there are called “HITs,” which stands for “human intelligence tasks.”
When you search for HITs, you will see the price that the requester will pay for the job, along with the time you will be given to complete the task. If you do not complete the task within the allotted time, someone else may be allowed to share the task (and the payment) with you so that the job can be completed quickly.
Most jobs only take 1-5 minutes to perform, and you can perform many jobs in a single day.
When you first join, you are on “probation,” and you will have some limits as to how many HITs you can perform. You will also have to do at least 10 HITs within 10 days of joining.
There is also a 10 day delay the first time you request payment.
How much does Amazon Mechanical Turk pay?
The individual HITs at Amazon Mechanical Turk do not pay very much; some pay only a few pennies. Some pay up to $5, but those are fairly rare.
I have read accounts of people who work at Amazon Mechanical Turk part time and have managed to earn $500 per month or more. This takes practice, as it will take time to learn how to use the system and how to learn which jobs can be done most quickly.
A job that pays a lot that takes an hour to do might not allow you to earn as much money as many small jobs done in the same amount of time.
For most people, working at Amazon Mechanical Turk offers a little bit of extra money, but not a full time income. In some countries, however, a little bit or money can make a big difference in your life.
A little money can also make a big difference in your life if you have no money at all and do not have enough money to get started in more profitable work such as affiliate marketing.
The biggest problem for most people outside the United States is going to be getting paid. For a long time, Amazon Mechanical Turk only paid cash to people in the United States.
They have recently added India to that list, and if you live there, you do have the choice of either receiving an Amazon Gift Card or having the money deposited to your bank account.
For people in all other countries, payment is only available by Amazon Gift Card. That means that you can only spend the money buying products from Amazon.
While there is no “official” way to turn an Amazon Gift Card into cash, there are unofficial ways to do this. I found a good article about it today while doing research for this post.
Amazon Mechanical Turk is not the ideal solution for everyone, but it is a good way to get started making money if you have no other options available for making money online.
Pros and Cons of Amazon Mechanical Turk
- Work as much or as little as you like
- Get paid in cash (or gift cards if you live outside the U.S.)
- People from most countries are eligible
- Most people outside the U.S. will be paid in Amazon Gift Cards
- Most jobs do not pay very much money
- Some days have more work than others
Amazon Mechanical Turk Summary
There are lots of people who want to make money online, and I have long recommended affiliate marketing as a way to do that. The problem with affiliate marketing is that you must have at least some money to get started.
Not everyone has that kind of money and if you have no money at all and you want to get started making money online, Amazon Mechanical Turk can offer a good way to earn a little bit of money.
There are many jobs available on the site, and while the jobs do not pay a lot of money, you can make some money by performing many jobs over a long period of time.
While there are better ways to make money online than Amazon Mechanical Turk, it’s a good way for many people to get started.
Amazon Mechanical Turk is recommended.
