Sites offering to pay you for taking surveys have been around for a long time, and many of them promise that you can make a lot of money doing that.
Bigspot, also referred to as bigspot.com, says you can make money taking surveys and that they’ll put you in touch with companies that will pay you for your opinion.
They say it’s as easy as that, and it is…sort of.
Can you really make money with Bigspot, or is the site a scam?
Read on for the full Bigspot review.
There is surprisingly little to the Bigspot Website. No long sales pitch, either. Just a few bullet points that say:
- Sign up, it’s fast, easy & free!
- Get matched with companies that need your opinions
- Take their free surveys and put extra cash in your pocket!
That’s pretty much it. To sign up with Bigspot, you give them a name, an email address, and a date of birth. I also had an optional box to check to indicate if I was of Hispanic origin.
Once you do that, you’ll be taken to the Bigspot “dashboard.” I put “dashboard” in quotes, because there’s not much to it.
Bigspot told me that based on the information that I’d provided to them (which wasn’t much,) they had matched me with the following survey panels who will pay me to to share my opinion.
Below that were buttons I could click on to join:
- Global Test Market
There’s no other information in my Bigspot dashboard, and there’s no other information on the Website, other than links for Privacy, Terms, Contact, and Unsubscribe.
When I clicked on the three buttons for the survey companies, I was taken to their registration pages, where I had to register again. They, in turn, would show me surveys for which I was qualified to participate.
What’s going on with Bigspot?
Bigspot isn’t a survey company; they’re just a site that puts people in touch with survey companies. They’re middlemen, and they likely get compensated by each of the survey companies they recommend for every person who joins from their site.
Putting my mouse over the three buttons in my Bigspot dashboard suggests this, as the link to MySurvey didn’t go to mysurvey.com, but instead went to:
That suggests that the link they were using is an affiliate link that MySurvey is using to keep track of referrals from Bigspot.
So, Bigspot gets to make a little money for every person they send to these other survey companies.
They’ll also make money in another way – selling things to you.
When you joined Bigspot, you gave them an email address. Rest assured, Bigspot will use that email address to send you offers. By all accounts, they do this a lot, so be read for that if you sign up.
What about the survey companies Bigspot recommends?
The three survey companies that Bigspot recommended for me are all well known companies that conduct surveys for a variety of organizations and companies.
Manufacturers, charitable organizations and other groups do have a need for public opinion, and they are often willing to offer something in exchange for people taking their surveys.
The problem is that very few of these surveys pay cash, and those that do usually pay very little. You might make $5 for taking a survey that takes an hour to complete, but that’s not exactly a good way to spend your time.
Other surveys don’t pay cash at all; they just pay out in gift cards or something of similarly minimal value.
Not only that, but survey companies are usually targeting very specific groups of people for their surveys.
They might, for example, only want the opinions of people with diabetes. Or people with college degrees. Or people who regularly shop at a particular supermarket chain. Or they might only want the opinions of people under the age of 30 who have three or more children. The possibilities are endless.
Not everyone who signs up with Bigspot or any of their affiliated survey companies is going to be eligible for every survey.
So, you won’t be able to take all the surveys and very few of them will pay cash. In the end, you’ll find that you won’t be able to make a lot of money taking surveys, but then again, this isn’t new. Bigspot is hardly the first survey site I’ve written about.
Remember how I mentioned that once you join Bigspot, they’ll have your email address and will likely start trying to sell things to you?
That’s likely also true of the survey companies that Bigspot recommends. Once you join them, they will have your email address, and chances are good that they’ll use it to try to sell things to you, or worse, they’ll sell your email address to other companies that will try to sell things to you.
In the end, you might make a few dollars taking surveys. You’ll also likely end up with an email inbox that’s full of offers from companies that want to sell to you.
If you think that’s a good way to spend your time, then joining Bigspot might be worthwhile. Otherwise, you might want to pass.
Pros and Cons of Bigspot
- Free to join
- Simple, easy to use dashboard
- The recommended companies are reputable
- You cannot make a lot of money taking surveys
- You’ll have a lot of junk email
Every now and again, someone comes up with the idea of creating a product that will show people how they can make a lot of money taking surveys.
Lots of people sign up. Then they discover that there aren’t that many surveys that pay cash, that many of the surveys take a long time to complete, and that most people aren’t eligible for many of the surveys that are offered.
These sites die down for a while, and then new ones spring up, ready to sign up people who are new to this and who haven’t heard before that paid surveys are not a good way to make money.
There are ways to make money online other than Bigspot, and there are better ways than taking surveys. I’d try one of those instead.
