Social Monkee Review – Fast, Easy Backlinks?

Social Monkee Review – Cheap Do-Follow Backlinks

If you have a Website, you’re not going to get a lot of traffic without backlinks unless you have content that’s literally unique to the Webs.  If you’re the only site on the entire Internet about left-handed socket wrenches, you might be able to rank in the search engines without backlinks, but for most of us, they’re absolutely necessary.  They’re also hard to get, which is why so many backlink tools have come to the market in the past few years.  One of the more durable ones is Social Monkee, a surprisingly affordable product that offers you the opportunity to get 25 backlinks per day.

social monkee reviewSocial Monkee also says that their backlinks are “do-follow”, which means you’ll get credit for the links from the search engines.  Even more amazing is the fact that Social Monkee sells for a measly $7, making it quite a bargain.  So what does it do?  How does it do it?  Is Social Monkee a scam or does it really work?  Read on for our full Social Monkee review.

Social Monkee Overview

Social Monkee does sell for $7, but you will find that it comes with several upsells, along with a number of sales pitches for related products and companion products.  I’ll get to those in a minute.  You can access Social Monkee by logging in to the Website and you can submit your URL there.  Alternatively, you can use a special Social Monkee plugin for Firefox or Chrome to submit your links directly from your browser.

To submit your link using Social Monkee, you just enter your URL in the form, add a title (which must be spun) and a description.  Spinning your title {title1|title2|title3} is mandatory, and you can use a spin tool like The Best Spinner or Spin Rewriter to do this, or you can just do it manually.  Spinning your description is optional, though recommended.  The Social Monkee team conveniently offers a link for you to buy these tools if you don’t have them already, giving them an extra opportunity to make a few extra dollars from you.

social monkee pluginWhere does your link go?  It goes to one of 100 social bookmarking sites that are owned by the Social Monkee team.  These are privately owned sites that they control.  The links are simple social bookmarks, so you won’t get a whole lot of “cred” from the search engines from these, but they will help you a little bit.  You can enter each URL only once every 6 weeks, in order to prevent the search engines from regarding these sites as link spam Websites.  You can, however, enter additional URLs from your site on subsequent days, as and will be regarded by Social Monkee as different links.

There are several upgrades or upsells available for Social Monkee.  The first is an upgrade to Premium membership, which costs $47.  With the Premium membership, you will be given extra backlinks.  Instead of submitting one URL to 25 sites per day, you can submit up to 3 URLs to 100 sites per day.  You can also “drip feed” your links over 14 days instead of receiving them all at once.  This gives your links a more natural look to the search engines.  You’ll also get full reports regarding your links and RSS feeds.

The Elite membership costs $57 and requires purchase of the Premium membership as a prerequisite.  The Elite Social Monkee membership allows you to submit up to 3 URLs to 150 sites per day.  You can drip feed your links over a 30 day period and you can schedule up to 45 submissions in advance.  You also have the ability to ping your links which can help them get indexed in the search engines and you’ll receive email notification for all of your completed link submissions.

social monkee scamIn addition to all of that, there’s one more Social Monkee upsell – the monthly Ambassador membership, which costs $19.97 per month.  This membership allows you to submit an additional URL each day, an extra 25 links from sites with actual Google Pagerank, and each of your links will be automatically submitted to Lindexed, a service that makes an additional effort to get your links indexed by the search engines.  This is an important feature, as building links is useless if the search engines never see them or index them.  The Lindexed service will help with this.  Your Social Monkee Ambassador membership also gives you access to the Social Monkee Facebook group, should such things interest you.

While Social Monkee costs $7, and gives you some decent value for that price, you’ll have to spend $7 + $47 + $57 + $19.97 per month in order to get the full value out of the system.  You’ll also likely need an annual subscription to The Best Spinner.  In addition to all of this, you’ll frequently see additional sales pitches from the Social Monkee regarding other backlinking tools, so expect to be told that you “need” a lot of things if you sign up for Social Monkee.

While Social Monkee seems to offer some decent value at $7, I’d be a bit wary of the fact that the service uses a private network of Websites for their basic backlinking.  The problem with this is that the search engines are a bit fickle, and they can, without notice, warning or explanation, simply remove any site from their index at any time.  Should Google, for instance, discover that this network of sites is a for-pay social bookmarking site, they could abruptly remove all of these sites from their index, making Social Monkee useless.  Keep in mind that bookmarks from a privately-owned social bookmarking site are going to be considered “low-value” links by Google.  You can get additional value out of Social Monkee by upgrading, but spending $121 to get the links from pages with actual Google Pagerank may not be worth your while.

Social Monkee Summary

social monkee - mehWhile Social Monkee will provide you with do-follow backlinks, these are low-quality links from privately owned social bookmarking sites, so they may have little value.  On the other hand, you can get better backlinks from Social Monkee if you upgrade to their Elite edition.  I’m not sure that’s a worthwhile expense.  While there are some high-quality backlinking tools available on the market, they all cost substantially more than Social Monkee, as some of them cost thousands of dollars.

While some people may see success with Social Monkee, the quality of the backlinks is somewhat suspect, so I can’t quite give the product a full recommendation.

Social Monkee is so-so.  I rate it a “meh”.

    • I’m not sure why you would think that; it’s certainly possible to assess a product without actually using it. After all, what Social Monkee does and how it does it isn’t a secret.

If I told you that it was a bad idea to jump off of a 20 story building, but that I had never actually done so myself, would you think that my opinion had “no real value?”

If you think the product may be useful to you, by all means, go buy it. I have no opinion either way about that. As for Social Monkee, I do have reservations about it, though it may work.
