There are a number of answers to that question, but the most basic answer is this: They will buy through your affiliate link if you provide something to them that they otherwise wouldn’t get. That value can come in a number of different ways, and it’s up to you to figure out exactly what it is that you’re going to provide to the customer. If you can figure that out, you’ll win. As they say, “the money is in the list.” If you have a mailing list, you can increase your affiliate marketing earnings. It’s a bit of trouble to maintain a mailing list, and there’s a lot to know. You’ll need to find an autoresponder system and learn how to use it. You’ll have to learn to write email messages and you’ll have to learn how to properly format them to work with your chosen autoresponder. Of course, as you might guess, these things pretty much never work out…except for the people selling the products, of course. So why do they market their products this way?
I saw a post on an Internet marketing forum recently about failure. The person who started the thread said that they’d tried a number of things to make money online and that they’d all failed. The added that they were uncertain about trying again and wondering what they should do about it. Should they continue? What if they fail again?
Failure in Internet marketing is actually quite common, despite what many of the so-called Internet marketing gurus tell you. Of course, Internet marketing isn’t the only field of business where failure is common; it’s also common in every other type of business on Earth. That’s the nature of business. It’s competitive. Sometimes your ideas don’t work. Sometimes your ideas do work and then, for some reason, they quit working later. What can you do about it?
Lots of people are looking for ways to make money online, but don’t know how to go about it. If you like dogs, you might want to build a Website around the needs of dog owners, though that’s a bit of a broad market. What you want to do instead is choose from a number of marketing niches within the overall market of dogs. Dog training, for instance, or dog toys, or perhaps dietary requirements for dogs might qualify as marketing niches, whereas the overall market for “dogs” is a market, rather than a niche.
Of course, when choosing marketing niches, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the potential number of possible things to do. The list is nearly infinite, and that can make it difficult to pick a market segment that you’d like to address in terms of making money. Granted, some marketing niches are going to be more popular than others – weight loss, for instance, is always going to draw more potential customers than a Website devoted to knitting. If you’re just starting out, one of the best guidelines is this – pick a niche that involves solving people’s immediate problems.
