zoolz cloud storage reviewIf you use a computer, it’s important to back up your data.  Period.  Yet a surprising number of people don’t bother to do it.  I used to work as a systems administrator, and one thing I learned is that people generally don’t take steps to back up their important data until they lose it.  Then they look bewildered and ask, “What do you mean it’s gone?”

Zoolz Cloud Backup offers a simple, elegant way to back up your data, storing it securely in the cloud so that it’s accessible whenever you need it and wherever you are.  They’re offering a lot, and they’re particularly offering it at a great price, so I thought I’d take a closer look at Zoolz Cloud Backup to see if their product really does what it says it does.  Read on for the full Zoolz Cloud Backup review.

Zoolz Cloud Backup Overview

Data can get lost for a variety of reasons:

  • Your hard drive dies
  • Your computer is stolen or lost
  • Your house burns down
  • You accidentally delete files that you intended to keep

There are hundreds of other ways that data can get lost, but if you don’t have a safe, secure and reliable backup, then you’re going to be in a lot of trouble if you accidentally lose data that you can’t recover.  One way to save it is to store your data on a backup drive, though that won’t help you if the computer is stolen or your house burns down.

That’s where Zoolz Cloud Backup can help.  Zoolz Cloud Backup stores your data at a separate location from your computer.  They claim that it’s stored “in the cloud,” but that’s a bit vague.  Where is it stored?  Zoolz Cloud Backup stores your data on a series of Amazon S3 servers.  Yes, that’s the same Amazon where you buy your books, DVDs and power tools.

zoolz backup dashboardAmazon discovered a few years ago that they had excessive server space over and above what they needed for their retail operations.  They decided to sell that space to people who need secure, robust online storage, and their  S3 system offers just that.  It’s fast, and it’s robust, with data copied redundantly to multiple locations around the globe.  It’s also secure, with 256 bit military-grade data encryption.

The problem, of course, is that using Amazon’s S3 system is cumbersome and awkward, and is really designed for programmers to access.  It’s not easy to use for people at home.  That’s where Zoolz Cloud Backup comes in.

Zoolz Cloud Backup offers a simple, easy to use, “set it and forget it” backup interface.  You download the application and install it.  You make a few choices as to what you want backed up.  You can adjust the upload speed in case you have limited bandwidth or a slow connection.  Zoolz Cloud Backup will back up your data on a schedule set by you, and you can secure it by setting a password that will make the data inaccessible to anyone but you.

As you can see from the images, using the Zoolz Cloud Backup interface is quite simple.  You simply need to pick the files or folders that you want to store.  You’ll need to decide how often you want to have them backed up.  You’ll need to adjust the upload speeds and pick your password.

One minor quibble about Zoolz Cloud Backup is that the data recover isn’t instant.  This system is designed for long-term storage, and not “instant” storage, such as you might find with a service such as Dropbox.  There is a delay of several hours before your data will be available for download.  On the other hand, disaster recovery is not something that you need to do very often, and the time you have to wait is a tradeoff for being able to purchase storage through Zoolz Cloud Backup at an affordable price.

And affordable it is.  Zoolz Cloud Backup has pricing designed to accommodate both home users and business users, and you can select the amount of storage you want, along with whether or not you want a few other options, such as Instant Vault, which is a file sharing/storage service that’s similar to Dropbox.

Pricing for home users is on an annual basis, and is based on the amount of data you want to be able to store. You can choose as little as 100GB of storage, or as much as 4 TB, which is suitable for power users or for families, as some of the Zoolz Cloud Backup accounts allow as many as five different users.

While pricing for Zoolz Cloud Backup is on an annual basis, they do have a limited-time lifetime license that’s available for a surprisingly low price.  Click here to learn more about Zoolz Cloud Backup lifetime.

What about Mac users?  The Zoolz Cloud Backup application is available for both Windows and Mac users, making it an ideal storage solution for everyone.

Zoolz Cloud Backup Summary

zoolz cloud backup - thumbs upBacking up data is a headache, and so much of one that a lot of people don’t bother.  Then they lose their data and have to start over. Zoolz Cloud Backup makes it easy to ensure that your data is safe and you can use it without a lot of trouble and hassle.  You just install it, set it up, and forget about it.  Your data is safe and secure, and you can get it back pretty much anytime you want it.

While there are many options for buying a storage solution through Zoolz, it’s hard to beat their lifetime license.  It’s not advertised on their pricing page, but you can get 1 TB of lifetime storage for less than you’d ordinarily pay for a single year of service.
