I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s really hard to get your site to show up near the top of the search engine rankings. Unless you’re in a niche without a lot of competition, you’ll be continually fighting to stay near the top of the search engine rankings with Google or Bing.
That’s just part of having a Website, and even the biggest companies fight to obtain and maintain their search engine rankings. I’ve written before about various ways to get to the top, but unfortunately, there’s no single way to do it. Google, for example, uses more than two hundred factors to determine their search engine rankings.
Still, some factors are more important than others, and in this post, I’ll tell you about one really important factor that can make a huge difference in how your site performs in the Google and Bing search engine rankings. Continue reading →
You can’t make money with a Website if you don’t have traffic, and if you’re on a budget, free traffic is the best option. For that, you’re going to have to rely on favorable search engine rankings, and that can be a problem. First of all, the market in most niches is pretty competitive. Second of all, the search engines, particularly Google, seem to change what they’re looking for on a daily basis. Every time there’s a new “animal” update, such as Panda or Penguin, Google shakes up the search engine rankings completely, throwing the entire Internet off balance.
While it’s not possible to know what the search engines will be looking for six months from now, it is possible to know what they’re interested in right now. We recently came across an interesting blog post that distilled the results of more than one million Google search results and came up with a pretty definitive list of the things that seem to be important to the search giant…today, at least. Read on for more about search engine rankings.
I’ve written quite a bit about search engine optimization, or SEO, as it is commonly known. Search engine optimization is the tweaking of your site’s settings and your content to ensure that the search engines know what your content is about. Why would you want to do that? If your site is about dog training, you likely want people searching for dog training information in Google or Bing to find your site. Good search engine optimization practices will ensure that the search engines are aware that your content covers that topic so they can rank your site and send traffic your way.
While it’s possible to overemphasize search engine optimization, some SEO is necessary. The days when you could just stuff keywords into your page a few dozen times to hammer home the point are gone; it’s now necessary to gently persuade the search engines regarding your content. It is possible to over do it, though, and you have to realize that there are some boundaries regarding what the search engines are going to regard as credible.
WordPress is one of the best tools to come along for helping Internet marketers make money online. In the past, you had to learn how to code HTML or learn how to use expensive WYSIWYG editors to build a Website. With WordPress, you just upload it, add a few plugins, and your site is ready to go. It’s fast, and easy and pretty much anyone with a pulse can get a WordPress site online in an afternoon. Of course, the software is not without its vulnerabilities, and WordPress hackers have been quite successful in making money from other people’s sites.
In recent news, Google has announced that they’re going to take a close look at sites containing what they call “hacking spam” and these are sites that have been compromised by WordPress hackers. Once you are able to break into someone’s site, you can upload any content that you like, often without the knowledge of the owner of the site. Since a lot of this content can be harmful, Google has decided to start removing such sites from their search results. While they say that this will likely affect only 5% of search results, 5% is a lot, and we’re talking about hundreds of thousands of sites here. In this post, I’ll talk about how WordPress hackers can hurt you and what you can do to prevent it.
